People often think that the colour wheel is of little use to anyone but artists. It was not until I went to Sweden to do a week long colour course that I realized their importance.
Some of the worlds most beloved art is all about complementary colours. Monet, The Group of Seven, Renoir and most of the impressionist artists used complementaries to create their pleasing art. Often the complementaries were used to communicate shadow and light. This painting by Tom Thompson is all about orange and blue complementaries.
